This series of illustrations is based off of the song “I am not my hair” by India Arie which helped not only Black women, but also men to see that the way they style their hair (relaxer, natural, locs, etc.) does not define who they are. Although this song was released back in 2009, it is still relevant today as many black men and women are often denied jobs and promotions because of the way they wear their hair. Children are also affected as many are suspended or ridiculed at school because they choose to wear braids, locs, or afros.
